Europe led global regions in emissions reduction in 2023, with companies in the region cutting emissions by 4% compared to the previous year. Only 39% of European companies in the Carbon Majors database increased their emissions.

The decline is attributed to rapid deployment of renewable energy, particularly offshore wind, and the ongoing phase-out of coal power in countries like Germany, the UK, and Poland.
